A few basic fish tank supplies are necessary for practically
any aquarium. Few people choose cold water tanks because the selection
of cold water species is limited and rather boring. So, a heater
and a thermometer will likely be necessary. The size and type
of heater will be contingent upon the size of the tank and the
types of plants and animals in it.
A filter is also high on the list of essential fish tank supplies.
Unless the tank is very small, like fish bowl small, a decent
filtration system will be needed. Many filters clean the water
mechanically, biologically and chemically. They may be a little
more pricy but they’re well worth it. Filtration systems
also help oxygenate water as they clean.
It is fortunate that most fish food is dirt cheap because it
is the item that will need to be replaced often. Optional fish
tank supplies include plants, rocks, and decorations. Popular
fish tank décor includes castles, diver figurines, fake
plants and “no fishing” signs. Perhaps the best way
to add some life to a fish tank is by adding other types of animals.
Crabs, frogs and snails are the most common critters outside of
fish.
